Turn on the new Siri and give it three real jobs
Siri AI landed with iOS 27 on September 14, 2026. For the first time it can read your texts, your email, your calendar and your photos, and answer from them.
This guide turns it on one tap at a time, then hands you the three things to ask it first. Ten minutes, most of it waiting.
Your progress saves automatically, so you can stop and pick it back up anytime.

Is your iPhone on the list
Siri AI only runs on newer iPhones. Not sure which one you have? Open Settings, tap General, tap About, and read the Model Name line.

WorksiPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16, iPhone Air, and anything newer.

Doesn’tiPhone 15 and 15 Plus, iPhone 14 and older. They get iOS 27, just not Siri AI.

Your phone language and Siri language both need to be English for now. More languages come in October.

Update to iOS 27
Open Settings, tap General, then Software Update. Plug the phone in and get on Wi-Fi first. It’s a big one.
Tap Update Now. Mine showed a smaller 26.7 update first. You need iOS 27: if it’s listed lower on the screen as a separate upgrade, tap that one.

The phone restarts on its own. Come back when you see the lock screen.

Check it took: Settings, General, About. The iOS Version line should start with 27.

Turn on Siri AI
Open Settings and tap Siri. If Siri is off, tap Turn On Siri first. Then tap this line:

It walks you through picking a voice, saying a few phrases so it learns yours, and a privacy screen. Go through all of it.

At the end it puts you on a waitlist. Some people get in within minutes, some wait a day or two. You get a notification when it’s your turn, and Siri AI downloads itself. Nothing else to do.

Already in? The Siri page in Settings shows a BETA badge and says Powered by Apple Intelligence:
It’s a beta. Some answers have a daily limit. If Siri tells you that you’ve hit it, it resets the next day.

Meet the Siri app
Once you’re in, a new Siri app shows up on your home screen by itself. Every conversation you have with Siri gets saved in there.

Three ways to talk to it: hold the side button, swipe down from the Dynamic Island at the top, or open the Siri app.

You can type instead of talking. Open the app and use the box at the bottom. Handy in a quiet office.

Dig something up
This is the one that proves the new Siri is different, in about ten seconds. Say or type this:
Find the address my client texted me last week.
Or this:
What's the confirmation number from my hotel email?

Siri reads your Messages, Mail, Calendar and Photos on the phone and answers from them. The old Siri could not do any of this.

Use a real one. Swap in a client you actually texted or a hotel you actually booked. The more real the ask, the better the answer.
These wordings are mine, not Apple’s. Siri understands normal talk, so say it however you’d say it to a person.

Text to calendar
Somebody texted you a time. Instead of opening Calendar and typing it in, say or type this:
Add the showing time from my last text with Mark to my calendar.

Swap Mark for a real name in your texts and showing for whatever the appointment is.

Siri pulls the day and time out of the text and creates the event. Open Calendar and check it landed.

Same trick works from an email or a photo of a flyer. Apple’s own demo turned a festival poster into calendar events.

What’s on my screen
Open a listing, a contract, a long email, a document, anything on your phone. Then, with it still on screen, say or type a question about it:
Can you give me a summary of this long document?
Siri reads whatever is on your screen and answers about it. Here it summed up an article.

Try it on a listing: the HOA fee, the square footage, the year built. Try it on a contract: “When is the inspection deadline?”

Try “Summarize this” on any long email or web page.

Find it later
Everything you just did is saved. Open the Siri app and scroll. Each chat is a card, newest at the top.

Tap any card to pick that conversation back up where you left off.

It syncs through iCloud. Start on your phone, finish on your Mac or iPad.

Habit worth building: any time you catch yourself about to scroll back through texts or email for a detail, ask Siri instead.
